"VTT-SYMPTOMS OF SIN(CD)

"...Ya know, usually when we head out to see a show we have to stand through some shit ass bands... but not always. Case in point, our good friends SPREAD EAGLE were playing Dingbatz in Clifton, New Jersey on Feb 12th. We arrived at the club in time to catch a band called VOODOO TERROR TRIBE who came on just before headliners SPREAD EAGLE.
Just around 11:30pm while the stagehands were still setting things up, we began noticing things like the special lighting equipment, a cool backdrop adorned with the VTT logo, a chained microphone stand and a logo painted bass drum. We knew then that these guys were definitely not fucking around and put some cash into there stage show. I for one appreciate bands that take pride in their image as well as their music. (Applaud!). But still... what about the music? Were we going see a great show with some shit ass musicians screaming and growling all night? That would totally suck! But, Nahhh... these guys really brought it on showcasing both good musicianship and vocals.
I was presently surprise with VOODOO TERROR TRIBE. Myself, I was brought up with diversity and photographed many different genres bands back in the day from bands like DEATH,KING DIAMOND, and TESTAMENT to THE CARS, Pat Benetar and KISS so I can handle pretty much anything. Now my boys Mark Balogh and Dave Felix like most of the milder shit but for them to even think these guys were ok was a HUGE plus!
I like them! They bring the full package with head banging, harsh and melodic vocals enhanced by some kick ass guitar licks. Vocalist Gil PZ I thought had good range and can really hit the low notes and did a great job with the melodic side of the chords. Guitarist Emir Erkal has great stage presences as well and with bassist Primer, they had that traditional metal power. VOODOO TRIBE TRIBE played hard and heavy yet added some smooth vocal tracks. They also did a few covers... one being “Separate Ways” (JOURNEY) and did a fine job on “Cowboys from Hell” (PANTERA) that even Mr. Felix enjoyed. (Surprise!). All in all I think these guys have potential to be a force... at least in the Jersey area where they can lift spirits of this musical dead zone..."

North Jersey Notes: Voodoo Terror Tribe...—by Tim Louie, February 23, 2011
"...I recently received an email from Thomas Comito aka T-Bone from the band Voodoo Terror Tribe letting me know that the last time that I featured the band, they had a totally different lineup, and that I should give them another listen because they’re sound has changed since. Last I saw of Voodoo Terror Tribe, my bro Harry Dullys was fronting the band. According to Tom, Voodo Terror Tribe had replaced Harry with singer Gil Pz over two years ago, and they recently replaced their bass player. Under Tom’s advisement, I went and listened to a few tracks off of Voodoo Terror Tribe’s 2009 CD, Symptoms of Sin, which was produced by BioHazard’s Billy Gradziadei. I was blown away! They sounded like a polished metal band on tracks like “You’re My Punishment,” “Wake of the White Devil” and “The Victim,” which they filmed a video for with my bro, Shottie Shotwell.
Voodoo Terror Tribe was formed in 2004 by guitarist Emir Erkal and Tom. The duo would soon bring in a guy named Primer to play bass, and they would continue to work their tails off to build a small following. When things didn’t work out with Harry, Voodoo Terror Tribe parted ways with him and found this new frontman from Texas who ‘masterfully vocalized emotional poetry.’ His name was Gil Pz. The guys headed into the studio in mid-2009 armed with the new singer and Billy Graziadei (Biohazard/Suicide City) in the producer’s chair. They came out of the studio with Symptoms of Sin.
Now, in 2011, Voodoo Terror Tribe is back in the studio with Billy again working on their next opus. These guys are definitely working like they have something to prove. They recently opened for my brothers Spread Eagle at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, and they’ll be onstage at the Bamboozle Festival this spring. Back when I originally wrote about these guys, I wrote “I have to say that these guys are part of the hard working band fraternity. I’m sure their fan base is huge already, but if these guys keep trekking the way they are, they’re definitely going places!” Those are my words and I’m sticking to them! Check out Voodoo Terror Tribe at vttrocks.com.

"...This band has produced a solid disc here full of good tunes. But, while most of the music they do is somewhat derivative, they do it extremely well. That makes it stand up nicely...
The Victim: This is basically a smart and refined cut that combines alternative rock and nu-metal in a good way. It’s nothing especially unique or original, but it’s very potent.
Light Divided: There are no huge changes here, but this is a bit heavier. It’s still a strong, albeit rather generic, modern hard rock meets metal track. It’s very well done, though.
You're My Punishment: Now, this is better. It’s got a real moody, progressive metal texture to it. There are still elements of that modern alternative hard rock meets nu-metal sound, but this is definitely meatier than the two tracks that opened the disc.
Wake of the White Devil: Here we get a really heavy track. It feels a little evil and there are some cool, off-kilter guitar solos. It’s got an extreme metal vibe, but it’s cool.
Deleted Scenes: This is another of the highlights. It starts off fairly extreme, but not as far into that zone as the previous piece. They give us a cool, balladic prog metal segment mid-track that’s one of the most interesting segments of the disc. There’s a smoking hot guitar solo later in the piece..."

"...Symptoms of Sin is the group's third effort, and presents an often haunting, yet catchy musical production that really jumps around through the styles, showcasing some rather haunting, yet catchy Hard Rock songs that border on Gothic Rock, as well as heavily Thrash inspired tracks that, sometimes, have a slight Progressive touch to them, but often not much. Either way, the music is good...It's clear that, for an unsigned group, the band has plenty of talent and can compose an addictive album that has enough of a bite to attract fans of harder, edgier rock, as well as metal, but still have a somewhat lighter, radio ready feel to it at times. The production on the release is well done, giving the listener an album that finds everything mixed nicely together, including the more industrial elements that appear in "Never Died Before"... Aside that, this release is a very well rounded effort. As stated, much of the album seems to be geared towards a Hard Rock sound, but things does change up a bit around "Never Died Before". While the first three songs have a strictly Hard Rock/Gothic Rock feel to them, the music branches off out of nowhere into a heavily Thrash oriented sound with some Industrial/Techno aspects, and even features a slight breakdown in the mix. There's honestly nothing bad about Symptoms of Sin other then the sudden musical shift that occurs between "You're My Punishment" and "Never Died Before". The first three songs, as stated, seem a little more radio friendly, but are still fantastic Rock-based tracks that show a bit of a Thrash influence, though not much. "You're My Punishment". Outside that, there's two bonus recordings at the end of the recording. The first is "World of Lies (Live)", which shows an impressive live performance full of energy and very progressional... In the long run, Symptoms of Sin is a rather enjoyable album. The band manages to blend a good number of styles together and present us with a recording that shows they deserve the spotlight, both in the studio, as well as on the stage..."

"...With a name like Voodoo Terror Tribe, what's your first best guess of the style of music they play? My first guess was death metal or something akin to hardcore or extreme metal (especially from the album cover). Well, I was wrong, and more than a little off. Symptoms of Sin is more near modern hard rock with a heavy edge. The vocals are rough, but neither this, nor the music, surrenders to the current hardcore/death metal trends. Actually, many songs here have a truly accessible, nearly radio-friendly, appeal including Never Died Before, Light Divided, and the excellent The Victim. VTT can definitely hit the fringes of modern metal with Wake of the White Devil and Deleted Scenes. Yet, the latter has enough melodic sensibility, and a darn fine guitar performance, to remove the edge and remain accessible...Nevertheless, Voodoo Terror Tribe is definitely on the right path on Symptoms of Sin with their harder edge melodic modern rock. A bit more focus and development adds promise to their future endeavors. Check them out..."

  • 5 Questions With Voodoo Terror Tribe

    Wednesday August 25, 2010
5 Questions With... is a chance to get to know an up and coming band you may not be familiar with. Formed in 2005 by Emir Erkal on guitars and long time friend T-Bone on drums, the duo soon brought in Primer on bass and vocalist Gil Pz. Voodoo Terror Tribe hail from the wastelands of the Garden State armed with a heavy-melodic, radio-friendly sound with provoking lyrics and a confident melancholy collection of art with genuine working-class tenacity. Erkal introduces us to his band.
Describe the sound of your latest CD Symptom Of Sin.
It's a furiously precise album with Billy Graziadei (Biohazard/Suicide City) at the producer's reins. It's really a mixture of different styles. We don't limit ourselves when we write our music. However, it mostly comes out as something dark and aggressive, but emotional and melodic with some melancholy as well. We poured everything that we had and everything that we have become into this record. It was meticulous, grueling, stressful and insightful, but we found a new sound. It's been quite a long road, and now we wanna prove to the fans that it's all been worth it.Talk about the Dio tribute show you're doing later this month.
I think this is the least we can do to remember and honor a true legend of heavy metal. It's a tribute and a benefit show. We will be rocking for him at Ding Batz (Clifton, NJ) on August 27th and the proceeds will go to the Stand Up and Shout Ronnie James Dio Cancer Fund...How did you get started in music?
I think I started around the age of 12-13 by playing the violin as my first instrument with my dad's push in Istanbul, Turkey. Then around the age of 15-16, I heard WASP and Manowar for the first time which got me into rock and metal and actually changed my life and everything and made me who I am today. It's funny, but I didn't change a lot since then. I formed some bands in Istanbul and did 3 metal albums with my latest band and toured Turkey around 1994-998 and then came to the USA to achieve my goals in music at a more professional level. After playing with some bands for few years, I met my drummer T-Bone and formed VTT in 2005.Who are some of your other influences?
My other inspiring and influential bands are Metallica, Kreator, Iron Maiden, Machine Head, Biohazard, Rammstein, The Cure and some classical music and opera...Anything else you'd like to mention or promote?

“A three-way analogy between western culture as it is viewed in the middle east, the idea of what George Bush might have been thinking in 2003, and the extraordinary enjoyment of addiction to crystal meth. 75% of the world talks shit about the USA, but they do so while wearing American clothes, watching American TV shows (idol), etc. etc.... "...VTT SYMPTOMS OF SIN SELF-RELEASED VTT display a versatile hard rock style that spans a few decades on their nine-track affair. Pumping out modern metal melodies a la Trivium with an electronic pulse not unlike that of Mudvayne or Static X (“Never Died Before”) while retaining the classic rage of acts like WASP (“You’re My Punishment”), this troupe’s cavalcade of strong riffs is sprinkled with a bevy of intriguing acoustic flourishes (“Looking For Serenity”, “Deleted Scenes”) providing the album a proper foundation that supports its constant switches in mood and atmosphere. Developing a style where Nu metal immediacy collides with metalcore’s rhythmic chug yet doesn’t forget to consult the vintage blueprint from where both were spawned, VTT’s gritty sensibilities and memorable hooks hit hard and are bound to leave an impression on anyone with an ear for the sound of today’s aggression. –Mike SOS..."

"...Symptoms of Sin is the newest release from New Jersey Metal outfit VTT. The band comes out of the box hard and heavy on the opening track, “The Victim” and the mauling does not let up until the very last tune, “World of Lies.” Packaged between these two songs are six other unbelievably, straight ahead metal tunes, plus a radio edit of “Wake of the White Devil”) that are fast, heavy and designed for one thing; getting the listeners up and snapping their necks for the duration...
Stylistically I do not necessarily feel that VTT have created anything fresh and innovative with this disc, but there are some songs that stand out as being quite good, solid metal tunes. The opener, the previously mentioned tune “The Victim,” is one of these songs. It is also the song I like the most on the disc, mainly because it is super aggressive and in your face. I also really dig “Wake of the White Devil” because there is a fairly catchy chorus coupled with the aggressiveness that makes it a more enjoyable listen.
From a production standpoint, at times, I feel the overall production gets a bit muddy and cluttered and some of the instrumentation and or vocals are hard to make out but I still dig what these guys are doing and I give them props for what I believe is overall a successful attempt. Symptom of Sin is a fairly decent effort and an album that I think will garner the band a bit of attention in the metal world..."

New Jersey’s VTT is proud to announce a confirmed March 12 show in the band’s home state of New Jersey alongside legendary American metal band W.A.S.P. on their headlining trek. Plans are also underway for a tour of greater America later this year, most likely this summer; details will be available on that trek shortly.
In the meantime VTT will continue playing in and around the Northeastern US, continuing to support its third album, ‘Symptoms Of Sin,’ an eight-track effort of driven alt-metal produced by friend and Biohazard/Suicide City vocalist-guitarist Billy Graziadei at Underground Sound Studios (Sick Of It All, Life Of Agony, Pantera). VTT previously released ‘Alone In Pain,’ in 2007, and 2005’s ‘Mandala’ under the VooDoo Terror Tribe moniker, but ‘Symptoms Of Sin’ marks the debut of the shorter, acronym name. “The acronym better represents our new approach, and is iconic in its own way,” guitarist Emir Erkal recently stated in an interview. “While in a way we’re a tribe, the term ‘terror’ doesn’t usually apply.” ‘Symptoms Of Sin’ also sees the recording debut of new VTT vocalist Gil PZ, a Texas native who recently relocated to the band’s New Jersey headquarters..."

"...Voodoo Terror Tribe or VTT have declared as this year being “their year” and why wouldn’t it be? The band’s latest addition “Symptoms Of Sin” and music video “Victim” are just the icy on the cake for these adrenaline junkies and they will surly become a heavy duty addition to the already very pop rock/metal franchise that has increased since the very beginning. VTT’s guitarist Emir Erkal spoke to me via email discussing VTT’s formation, latest album, video and upcoming whereabouts as to what’s in-store for the 2010 term..."

"...New Jersey act VTT unleash that heavy metal we all love and grew up to know so well. VTT’s latest, Symptoms Of Sin, has this classic rock/metal vibe to it while kicking a ton of ass at the same time! With loads of heavy distortion, melodic heavy metal, and some acoustic breaks making up the majority, VTT is a heavy hitter and one to be reckoned with. The beauty of Symptoms Of Sin is that VTT really makes the most out of their melodies, and is able to create an album full of quality songs, not worrying about being the fastest, br00talest, or most technical band out there. Whether hitting heavy with the metal assaults or unleashing an alternative metal side, VTT’s song structure is solid.
Diving into Symptoms Of Sin, there are plenty of singles to rock your socks off such as “You’re My Punishment”, and “Never Died Before”, which give a raw yet accessible approach. Make sure you take note of Gil PZ’s vocal delivery, because this guy can growl, howl, and everything in between, putting that extra exclamation mark in their music! VTT also knows their traditional thrash pretty well, where they let that shine in “Wake Of The White Devil”. Whatever method of attack they take, even with the hearty doses of alternative metal, VTT seems to use it to their advantage well.
Symptoms Of Sin unleashes a ton of soul, rock and roll, and most importantly, the classic metal that we all seem to take for granite these days. Take a second, pause, and check back into metal’s roots, and Symptoms Of Sin in a way acts like a reminder to the glory days, with a classic sort of evil in the mix. Fans of loud heavy metal need to check out VTT now..."

"...New Jersey go getters VTT, formed within the time that was 2005 and brought with them something that no other band could possible dish out which was music. Wait what? All bands can do that can they not? Well some can and some cannot it all depends on how much impact that particular band can portray.
When comes to the essence that is VTT this being their third accomplishment to date, “Symptoms of Sin”, who knows what should be expected of their musical obsession. Well for one, you get presented with a total of eight tracks with a bonus feature oh my! What? Could that possibly be? It’s the band’s official video of the track entitled “The Victim”. So you pretty much get entangled with a handful of goodies when you come across this so-called “Symptoms of Sin”. “The Victim”, also just so happens to be the opening tune that introduces you to what this band can exactly do. The guitars and vocal chords are in a fair balanced grip that they balance out the whole layout of the song that plays off to being this heavy duty song of such progression the music backing it all up is obscene.
“You’re My Punishment”, “Never Died Before”, and “Wake of the White Devil” all go hand in hand with one another. One source being that all of the music portrayed within these selections showcases itself to being nothing more than again some heavy duty but more raw material matter that overrides the whole album’s display purposes. Plain and simple the music is an aggression of brutality that contains this rock n’ roll vibration with heavy metal influence wrapped around giving it that much needed breath of fresh air. VTT is rest assured that there isn’t anything that these rock n’ rollers cannot do. Just give them the time and chance to sock it to you..."
